Once again we receive our tax assessments for the 2009-2010 tax years and once again the taxes are going up. They do not call it a tax increase - it is raising our assessments. The raises in assessed value are so out-of-line with the true value of our homes it is ridiculous. The amount assessed on my property, to which no changes have occurred in the past year, could never be gotten in the sale of the house. No house on my block has ever sold for the price they are putting on the house. Real estate values throughout Nassau County have gone down in the past year, but the county thinks they are worth more than last year.

It is time every property owner in Glen Cove challenges their assessment. This ridiculous policy of raising assessments every year has to stop. When is the last time assessed values have gone down? Every time politicians need more money because of their mismanagement, we have to pay the price. Put a stop to this practice and challenge your assessment. It will never stop if the people do not object.
