North Shore continued its winning ways on Monday, Feb. 4 by defeating the Wantagh Warriors, avenging a loss earlier in the season. After taking a late lead, the Vikings went into halftime up 26-25. The turning point came in the third quarter as Ian Hnatov scored 18 of the team's 27 points. That set the tone as Wantagh was unable to respond to the 15-point deficit heading into the final quarter. Hnatov finished with a game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds. Chris Fey and Pat Chaputian also reached double figures in points, scoring 12 and 11 respectively. Winners of their last three games, 5 of 6 and unbeaten since January 16, North Shore hopes to ride this wave into and throughout the playoffs.

North Shore rolled to a 75-40 victory over East Rockaway on Friday, Feb. 8. It was a big win to rebound from the crushing 52-51 loss at Valley Stream South earlier in the week. Senior Night saw the Vikings' seniors score 66.7 percent of the team's points, led by Mike Lennon's 15 points. With one scheduled game left, the Vikings eagerly await a well-deserved trip to the playoffs next week, now 8-3 in conference play and 11-5 overall.

Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008 will go down in North Shore High School Athletics history as the day Kristen Reynolds broke the 1,000-point plateau. Kristen is the only North Shore female athlete and only the second North Shore athlete (Billy Melillo '05) to break this mark. In fact, Kristen is only the 85th female in Nassau County history to surpass this total. Kristen is a four-year varsity starter and a three-time All-County basketball athlete. It is quite an accomplishment and is a testament to the dedication that she gives to basketball.

Despite Kristen's historic night, the Lady Vikings fell to Plainedge as the offense waited until the fourth quarter to get going, scoring 20 points in the final eight minutes of a 51-42 defeat. The next night, however, the girls headed to New Hyde Park to take on the first place Gladiators. North Shore was looking to exact some revenge for an earlier 10-point loss to NHP and looking to get back on track after a few weeks of sloppy play. Led by Kristen Reynolds (16 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists) and Kristin McCormack (12 points, 11 rebounds) the Lady Vikings broke out of their funk as they bested New Hyde Park 56-44. Tough defense was played by Lauren Berglin, Kaela McGilloway and Ashley Janelli as they shut down the much taller Gladiators. In addition, Justyne Passarelli (9 points, 7 rebounds) hit her first career three-pointer with 2:30 left in the game to halt any plans that New Hyde Park had at a comeback. With things beginning to click, the Vikings seem ready for the playoffs.

The women's winter track and field team successfully won the Conference 5 Winter Track and Field Championship. They defeated the other nine schools with a winning margin of 60 points. Overall, 15 girls earned All-Conference recognition based on their individual and relay performances. This is the cross-country/track and field program's fifth consecutive championship.

The boys winter track team won the Conference 5 Championship Meet Wednesday night at Suffolk Community College. North Shore scored 127 points. The second place team from Island Trees scored 90 points. Overall, nine boys earned All-Conference recognition based on their individual and relay performances. Distance runners Willie Schefer, Mike Clausen and Matt Wefer made an impressive showing of taking first, second, and third in the two-mile, one-mile and winning the 4X800 Relay. Senior Jake Tobol won the 1000 and 600.
