After closing out the week with a 14-5 rout of Carle Place, North Shore was ready to start league play. The first series was against Glen Cove and the Vikings were eager to begin. The first game, at Glen Cove, was taken by North Shore thanks in part to superb pitching from start to finish by Pat Chaputian, with the final score 7-0. There were key hits all over the lineup as everyone contributed to the victory. The Vikings took an early lead and never looked back as the team cruised to its fourth consecutive win.
The next day ended the same way, with a 5-1 Viking victory. The only run for Glen Cove was a solo homerun. North Shore completed the sweep on Thursday, winning a closer, less exciting game 3-0. Ian Hnatov had a solo homerun to give North Shore a three-run advantage. With the winning streak at six, the Vikings were looked to extend it even further with a big series against Island Trees.
The North Shore men's lacrosse team went 1-1 this week bringing their league record to 2-1 and their overall record to 4-4. The Vikings started the week with a tough 10-4 loss to Cold Spring Harbor High School. North Shore played hard on defense, with gritty performances from senior midfielders Mike Lennon and Tucker Morgan, and close defender Shaun Brala. But the Vikings had a tough time generating offense all day long with their only scores coming from Chris Dellavecchia (2), Tommy Kilderry and Taylor McGrath.
The Vikings were forced to get over the loss quickly and traveled to West Hempstead the next day to play another league contest. This time the results were different, with North Shore coming away with a 15-3 victory. Dellavecchia and freshman Pat McCann led the Vikings with three goals apiece. The scores were McCann's first at the varsity level. McGrath and Kilderry added two of their own, while Zach Venditto, Peter Volpe, Rob Grabher, Kyle Henry and Tommy Destio each added one goal. Paul Faglione and Tyler Morris helped Grabher win the majority of the faceoffs and keep possession for the Vikings. When North Shore was on defense, Charlie Dunn, Tyler Ryan and Tom Kulikowsky did a great job holding West Hempstead to only three goals.
North Shore travels to Friends Academy for a game Friday on April 25 at 4:15 p.m.
