In the past few weeks we've discussed several local efforts to get much needed financial help from the state, federal and county governments.
Mayor Suozzi has announced several significant grants, through Washington and Nassau County, for everything from the Mill Pond to playgrounds to the CDA. Dr. Aronstein of Glen Cove schools has talked about IDEA and Title I grants adding up to around $1 million arriving from Washington within a couple of months, as well as a federal package that should make up for the budget woes the school has at the moment. And Diane Yatauro has been in Albany seeking help with initiatives that could result in $30 million in county revenue at a desperate economic crossroad.
As we all wait out this harsh moment, it is reassuring to see the higher levels of government considering ways to keep things moving out of recession. And it is good to see the local people fighting to bring their area through this tough era. Go team.
