Years ago, New York City Mayor Edward Koch would often ask: "How are we doin'?" In similar fashion, the Glen Cove Board of Education has developed, as one of its district goals this year, a goal which stated: "Continue to build a sense of trust, confidence and pride in the schools."
In order to assess the degree of trust, confidence and pride, we have developed a School Satisfaction Survey, which we are asking all Glen Cove citizens to fill out. It is important for the board of education and the school staff to get feedback from you in order to determine how the community views its schools and how we are doing in regard to our central mission, which is student achievement.
I have developed two surveys. One is for parents who currently have children enrolled in the Glen Cove School District, the other is for all other community members. Within the next few days, the School Satisfaction Survey will be posted on our website (www.glencove.k12.ny.us). You will be able to key in your responses to a series of items which are designed to assess your opinion on the various aspects of our public schools. All responses will be confidential. You will also receive a brochure in the mail which will contain the surveys. Again, you are asked to go to the website and respond to the survey. For those community members who do not have easy access to a computer, you will be able to mark your responses on the brochure and mail it back to us.
All responses will be tallied, and the results will be presented publicly to the board of education. I will also issue a press release in order to make the results available to the entire community.
We expect to administer this survey every couple of years in order to track the progress of our schools. We respect the opinions of the public, and very much want to continue to gain your confidence. Thank you in advance for responding to our surveys.
