The Glen Cove Boy's Lacrosse team opened its season with a 16-3 taming of the Hempstead Tigers. After a shaky start that saw the Big Red fall behind 2-1, the Glen Cove offense began to roll.
The Glen Cove attack proved to be too much for the Tigers to handle. Senior Kevin Gardrvits led the Big Red scorers with four goals, Tyler Ravener had three and Eric Tripp added two.
In all, nine Big Red players tickled the twine including Doug Tripp with two goals, Zach Rubin, Mike Pappachristou and Rafael Montes with one. Daven Plummer and Owen Valance each scored their first career goal for the Big Red.
In true Glen Cove fashion, 13 of the 16 goals came on assists. Eric Tripp had 5, Mike Pappachristou 3, Tyler Ravener 2, Zach Rubin, Kevin Gardrvits and Doug Tripp each had one.
Defensively, Brendan Huggins and Michael Doxey combined for 13 saves, while George Weck, Danny Mahoney, Garen Spenjian, Phil Voegetle and Brandon Winkler held the Tigers at bay.
The next home game for the Big Red is Friday at 4 p.m. versus St. Francis Prep.
