After what seemed to be the longest winter in recent memory, the baseball gods shined down on this year's Opening Day Parade. The weather was magnificent as the parade made its way through the streets of the village on the way to John Maccarone Memorial Stadium for the festivities.

At Opening Day, Mayor Suozzi continued the tradition started by his cousin and then mayor, Tom Suozzi and led everyone in a chorus of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.

Glen Cove Junior Baseball and Softball Chairman Bruce A. Testa was joined by Mayor Ralph Suozzi and Glen Cove City Council members Delia DeRiggi-Whitton, Sean Dwyer, Nicholas DiLeo, Michael Famiglietti and Timothy Tenke along with Senator Carl Marcellino, Judge Richard McCord and Recreation Director Darcy Belyea.
Chairman Testa thanked the mayor and the city for the new bathrooms being constructed on the upper fields. He also thanked Recreation Director Belyea and Foreman Joe Famiglietti and the Stadium Crew for the outstanding condition of the fields, which are second to none.
Special guest saxophonist Richie Cannata played a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Mayor Suozzi continued the tradition started by his cousin and then mayor, Tom Suozzi and led everyone in a chorus of Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
Mayor Suozzi and Councilwoman Whitton threw out the traditional first pitches and the 59th season of Glen Cove Junior Baseball and Softball was officially under way. The teams all played a full schedule of games with the crowds and players all enjoying the beautiful spring weather.
Glen Cove Junior Baseball and Softball invites everyone to come down and watch a game and enjoy America's National Pastime being played by the Glen Cove's future stars. The board of directors includes Commissioner Rob Kormoski, League Vice Presidents Karen Austin and John Maccarone and board members Vinny Annunziato, Sal Basile, Antoinette Cappiello, Pete Cappiello, Paul Casale, Dom Grosso, Rob Grabowski, Tom Hopke, Donna Marino, Leon Osborne and Bob Payton.
