The Glenwood Landing Elementary School will resound with the glorious holiday sounds of brass instruments and choirs on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m., when the North Shore Community Chorus, under the direction of Stephen Goldstein and the Island Chamber Symphony Brass, under the direction of Jeremy Kempton, will take to the stage to present a magnificent holiday music spectacular. Featured on the program are“Gloria” by John Rutter and the “Christmas Cantata” by Daniel Pinkham. The program will also highlight holiday favorites by the Musica Schmoozica vocal ensemble, directed by Carol Goglia. The evening will culminate in a carol sing-a-long with brass and choir, and a new Chanukah medley for brass and choir, written by Goldstein. The festivities will begin at 8 p.m. at the Glenwood Landing Elementary School Auditorium, 60 Cody Avenue, Glen Head. Celebrate the holidays, and at the same time, boost your health and wellness during this busy season at Glen Cove Hospital’s holiday health fair, Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the hospital’s Pratt Auditorium, 101 St. Andrews Drive, Glen Cove. The festive event will feature holiday music and a Christmas shopping boutique with local vendors. There also will be fun activities for children, including pictures with Santa and his elves, free gifts, and hot cocoa, cookies and apple cider for all. Health screenings for adults include: blood pressure, diabetes, pulmonary function and body mass index (BMI) calculations. Free flu shots will be available and community members may meet with Glen Cove Hospital pharmacists to review their medications. (Residents are asked to bring their prescription medications and over the counter drugs in a bag.) Alexa Hampton will be signing her new book, Decorating in Detail, at Meg Braff Antiques and Decoration shop located at 92 Forest Avenue in Locust Valley. Hampton is one of the top talented sweethearts of design and will be signing books from 5 to 7 p.m. Meg Braff will be in store, Braff has been featured multiple times in House Beautiful and Southern Living magazines. Braff recently decorated a room in the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island for charity and also has a well-known wallpaper and fabric line with free samples available in store. The event is free and books will be available for purchase.
The North Shore Historical Museum will host a lecture by well-known historian and author Monica Randall, on Thursday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. Winter Dreams slide show and lecture will be part of the current exhibit which will be at NSHM until Feb. 15, 2014. Fee for the lecture is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Refreshments will be served following the lecture. The Knights of Columbus #1828 will hold a blood drive from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, at 83 Sea Cliff Ave. Glen Cove. All donors will receive two free tickets to a 2014 NY Mets game. Your donation will help to save up to three lives. Our community hospitals need your help. Eligibility Criteria:
• Bring ID with signature or photo.
• Minimum weight 110 lbs.
• Age 16 – 75 (16-year-olds must have parental permission. Age 76 and over need doctor’s note)
• Eat well (low fat) and drink fluids
• No tattoos for past 12 months
