Great Trials In American History 

Retired American History teacher Don Parker discusses two of America’s famous trials: the Trial of John Brown and the Trials of the Scottsboro Boys.  Learn how in 1859, abolitionist John Brown led a raid on the federal arsenal at Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, seizing armaments, gathering supporters and waging a fight against slavery.  He was captured, tried, convicted and hung. At the Glen Cove Library, 2 p.m.

Fire Safety Prevention Seminar

The Glen Cove Fire Department will be offering a free fire prevention safety seminar designed for children and their families from 10 to 11 a.m. at GMA Martial Arts & Life Skills, 4 Cedar Swamp Rd., behind Retro Fitness Gym. Open to the public; call 516-801-2622 to RSVP as space is limited.

Any Soldier Volunteer Program

This young adult program for grades 6 and up will take place at the Glen Cove Public Library at 11 a.m. Since December 2006, through a website program called AnySoldier.com, the library has been gathering numerous items generously donated by people in the community and collected in the library. These items are sent to soldiers serving in Afghanistan. This is an ongoing effort and they need help organizing the donations into boxes and bringing them to the post office. Assistance is welcome and volunteers can earn community service credit. Any donations to send to the soldiers would also be appreciated. Call the Young Adult Department at 516-676-2130.
