Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi invites all Glen Cove residents to attend the City’s annual Fourth of July Celebration. Independence Day festivities will begin in the morning on Saturday, July 4, with the annual Children’s Bicycle Parade. At 10 a.m. children should line up at the Finley Middle School horseshoe with their bikes, scooters, trikes and battery-powered “vehicles.” Children are encouraged to decorate their wheels using a patriotic theme. In the evening, Glen Cove residents will be treated to a unique musical experience by two groups, beginning with the Les Stanco Group at 5:30 p.m. immediately followed by the Northwinds Band leading up to the evening fireworks display. In case of rain, the July 4th concert will be held indoors at St. Patrick’s Church. Fireworks would be rescheduled to Sunday, July 12, 2009.
Residents are reminded that their bags and backpacks are subject to search for contraband, including alcohol and fireworks. Parking restrictions will be in effect in the Landing neighborhood on the Fourth of July. There will be no parking all day July 4 on Germaine Street, Landing Road or McLoughlin Street west of Carpenter Street. Parking for people with handicap parking permits will be available in the Morgan Park parking lot.
After the concerts there will be a spectacular fireworks showcase by Bay Fireworks. This year’s fireworks sponsors are: Sidney B.
