The baseball season officially began on Saturday, April 13 in Glen Cove, when the Glen Cove Junior, Baseball and Softball- Rob Kormoski League paraded through town to John Maccarone Memorial Stadium, where opening day ceremonies were held.
This year, approximately 450 kids are participating in the program, and they held their team sponsor banners high as they marched through the streets on a brisk Saturday morning.
As well as the numerous ballplayers and their families, several local politicians were in attendance at the opening day ceremony, including State Sen. Carl Marcellino, State Assemb. Chuck Lavine, Nassau County Legis. Delia DeRiggi-
Whitton, and Glen Cove Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi, as well as several Glen Cove City Councilman.
Claudia Kolonavic sang “America the Beautiful” and Richie Cannata played the national anthem on his saxophone.
Suozzi threw the opening pitches, and the season commenced.
