Gregory Caso of Locust Valley was dealt a hard blow early on in his senior year at Locust Valley High School with his mother’s diagnosis of breast cancer. He and his twin sister, Amanda, however, are using their energy in a positive way and focusing on creative ways to raise money and awareness.
Last fall they formed a Relay for Life team to honor their mother, and in December came up with the idea of putting on an outdoor concert to raise money for sponsoring the team.
“We knew it would be big and had to be outdoors, with a stage, so holding the concert at school was not an option,” says Caso.
He and his friends bounced around other venue ideas before deciding to see if Morgan Park was available, and after several months of organizing, they are planning a May 10 concert in the park, beginning at 4 p.m.
The show will have 15 different musical acts, entirely made up of students from Locust Valley High School. Caso and his sister both play the saxophone, though he says his sister plans on singing to surprise their mother.
Caso’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer last October and had her first surgery in November. She is now recovering from her second surgery, which she underwent on April 10.
The Music For Life charity concert will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 4 p.m. in Morgan Memorial Park, Germaine St., Glen Cove. Admission fee: $8. All proceeds from this event will go toward sponsoring Team CasoLearning. They will also be selling baked goods and will be raffling off gift certificates to local businesses and restaurants.
