The Glen Cove School District budget passed last Tuesday, with results totaling 740 votes in favor to 330 opposed. Trustees Barrie Dratch and Maureen Pappachristou were both re-elected to the board of education in the uncontested election; Dratch received 615 votes and Pappachristou received 786 votes.
“I am excited to be serving another term on the board,” said Dratch, who has been a trustee since July 2011. “I am looking forward to continuing the work we have started under our leadership with Ms. Rianna. We are moving the district forward and I am proud of the strides we are taking in supporting the needs of all of our students.”
The passage of the school’s budget means a tax levy increase of 1.58 percent. Complete budget information is available at www.glencove.k12.ny.us.
“We were delighted to learn that voters approved the budget by such a significant margin,” said Superintendent Maria L. Rianna. “This affirms the hard work of so many people, as we strive to provide the highest quality instructional and extracurricular program while minimizing the tax impact. The board and administration spent several months developing a budget that is efficient, cap-compliant and educationally sound.”
Rianna extended her congratulations to Dratch and Pappachristou on their re-election to the Board of Education.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the entire board to ensure that Glen Cove schools are as great as they can be,” she said.
