Downtown Glen Cove was abuzz during last Thursday evening’s bi-monthly car meet, Autostrade Glen Cove.
This event, sponsored by Martino Auto Concepts of Glen Cove, is held at the corner of Glen and School Streets. More than 125 vehicles showed up and gave a $10 donation to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department as the required entrance fee.
Last week’s star attraction was the Swedish-made rare two-seat super car called the CCXR Koenigsegg. The owner, who requested not to be named, said that only six of these cars were imported to the
United States, with a total of 36 produced. It is rated at 1018 horse power going 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds and is worth $1.6 million. The owner said that his highest top speed driving it was on a rented runway where he topped at 237 mph.
In the mix of cars there were plenty of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, BMWs and new Stingrays, along with three gull wing Mercedes Benz sport cars. Also in the mix were a monster Jeep, the Marine’s Humvee and several muscle cars.
This family event will be held again July 27, Aug. 7 and 21, with the last event Sept. 4. The hours are 6 to 10 p.m., with the best time to see most cars after 7 p.m. Each event brings out different cars. If you have a car you wish to show call 516-676-7985.
