Amahl and the Night Visitors Coming to the North Shore

The North Shore Community Chorus, under the direction of Stephen Goldstein, will join with the Island Chamber Symphony to present a fully staged production of Gian-Carlo Menotti’s beloved Christmas opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, on Saturday, Dec. 12.

North Shore High School freshman Jonathan Mattner will perform the role of Amahl, the poor boy with the heart of gold. Jonathan is a private student of Dr. Melinda Edwards. He also is a member of the Concert Chorale and the Madrigal Singers. North Shore High School senior Nick Corda will perform the role of the page. Nick, an outstanding singer/actor, will represent North Shore High School in the All-State Choir this year. Filling out the cast will be Huntington Station’s Pat McKay- Bombace as Amahl’s mother, Bayville’s Michael Flanagan as King Kaspar, Wantagh’s Mark Kaufmann as King Melchior, and Locust Valley’s John Coffey as King Balthazar.

Also on the program will be Ottorino Respighi’s Christmas Cantata, Laud to the Nativity. Huntington soprano Janice Weir will be a featured soloist.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see this classic and inspiring Christmas opera.

The program will be performed at the Glenwood Landing Elementary School, 60 Cody Avenue, Glen Head, NY, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. Call (631) 470-6128 for further information.
