Samuel Esposito is This Year’s Honoree
The City of Glen Cove Memorial Day Parade Committee, whose members represent the VFW James Donohue Post 347, American Legion Post 76, American Legion Young-Simmons Post 1765 and the Marine Corps League Globe and Anchor Detachment, invites the community to honor the memory of this country’s war veterans beginning on Sunday, May 24 and culminating on Memorial Day. The weekend will include decoration of the city’s war monuments, church memorial services and a commemorative parade. This year’s honoree is Samuel Esposito, a veteran of Vietnam. Our veterans ask us to pause and remember the countless heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.
Glen Cove Memorial Day Commemoration Schedule
Sunday, May 24Veterans will decorate the war monuments according to this schedule:
1 p.m. at the monument at Ford Street and Forest Avenue
1:30 p.m. at the St. Rocco’s monument
2 p.m. at the monument on the corner of Elm Avenue and Frost Pond Road.
The City of Glen Cove’s Annual Memorial Service honoring our nation’s war dead immediately follows at 3 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Glen Cove.
Monday, May 25
Memorial Day commemorations begin at 11 a.m. at Monument Park (North Lane and School Street). All are invited to honor the memory of our veterans and salute this year’s parade honoree Samuel Esposito. The parade begins at noon, stepping off from the Finley Middle School horseshoe and proceeding down Forest Avenue to School Street to Glen Street, turning at Pulaski Street and at the arterial highway, passing the reviewing stand at Glen Cove Library and ending at Charles Street.
