A sold out crowd was treated to a gourmet delight prepared by Jeanine Dimena, an exciting Chinese auction and speeches by the honorees. Dr. Accasha and Glen Cover Joan Crane at this year’s Diabetes Research Institute Foundation (DRIF) event.
Joan and Sunny Crane were honored as special guests as they both exemplify what it means to live life successfully while facing a condition like diabetes.
“This husband and wife team are so impressive, not only for the love and support they have for each other but also for the way they are wiling to help support their community by sharing their story and raising funds to help find a cure for this disease,” said Councilwoman Delia DeRiggi-Whitton.
Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi, Nassau County Minority Leader Diane Yatauro and Judge Richard McCord gave citations to each honoree. City Councilmen Nick DiLeo, Sean Dwyer and Anthony Jimenez, also a committee member, attended the event as well. Senator Carl Marcellino contributed a grant to add to the success of the dinner.
The event was chaired by Mary Hall and Councilwoman DeRiggi-Whitton. As moms of children with diabetes, the two woman extended gratitude to the “wonderful committee, all those who attended and contributed, and to Page One for another successful year.”
