Michael G. Sterzel, of Glen Head, died on Dec. 16, 2010. Son of Denise and the late Paul. Father of Lara Murray-Sterzel. Life companion of Jennifer Vandehey. Brother of Joseph (Kathryn). Helene Craig, of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 15, 2010 at age 90. Born in Mogador, Morocco on July 15, 1920, she is descended from several distinct worlds: Her Sephardic roots date back to the Spanish Inquisition of 1492 when many Jews fled to North Africa. Another branch of her family goes back to the ancient Phoenicians, a civilization of traders who plied the waters of the Mediterranean. She was raised and taught to speak French, Hebrew as she attended French boarding school at the Lycee de Jeunes Filles in Casablanca. She grew up in the Roaring ’20s, which was her favorite era. Her passion was dance. Her family moved to Brooklyn in 1939 and soon she met and married the love of her life, Larry, in 1942 during WWII. Their family moved to Glen Cove in 1954 where they raised their son Geoffrey and daughter Lisa. She never gave up her passion for dancing and would still take classes in New York City at the New Dance Group. She was a fabulous cook, cooking both French cuisine and Moroccan specialties. Known to her friends as “Muzzie,” she always kept her strength, refinement and generosity. Helen was the wife of the late Laurence B. Mother of Geoffrey and Lisa. Sister of Victor, Leonard, Gloria, Stanley and the late Jacques. Grandmother of Amanda and Antonia. Great-grandmother of Andre, Lili and Kylie. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Service at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove.
Michael “Ski” Gudelauski, age 48, of Sea Cliff, formerly of Collinsville, IL and Laguna Beach, CA, died on Dec. 11, 2010. Former husband of Bonnie Boisits. Father of Nathan, Suzi and Chase. Brother of Michelle O’Rourke. Also survived by loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was a devoted Operation Desert Storm veteran. He proudly served as a Special Forces Green Beret. Ronald Knight, of Glen Cove, died on Dec. 7, 2010 at age 67. He was a retired employee of Grumann Aerospace Corp. for 29 years. Longtime companion of Diane DiLandri. William Wait III, of Glen Cove, died suddenly on Dec. 6, 2010. He was born in Peekskill, NY, on Aug. 28, 1921. Husband of Mildred. Also survived by nieces, nephews and one sister-in-law. Service at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Interment private.
Resi Lord of Sea Cliff, retired language teacher at North Shore High School, educator, literary critic, survivor of Nazi oppression, and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in her sleep at her home in Sea Cliff on Dec. 6, 2010. She was three days from her 95th birthday. She is survived by her children, Andreas Lord and Susan Lord Mark; her grandchildren, Thomas Edward Mark, Nicholas Mark and Jackson Cody Lord Berman; her great-grandchildren, Evelyn Kathleen Mark and Julian Mark; her loving daughter-in-law Ann Berman; and her companion of 45 years, George Pappas.
