Conchetta E. Venturino
Conchetta E. “Connie” Venturino, of Glen Cove, died on May 25, 2010 at age 90. Wife of the late Matthew. Sister of Jean Famiglietti, the late Mary, Faye, Charles, Lucy, Joseph and Michael. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Also survived by brother-in-law Jerry. She was a charter member of James Norton Columbiettes and charter member of the Church of St. Rocco Rosary Society. Poco Murphy, 83, of Sea Cliff, died peacefully on May 3, 2010, at Camp Splash, her home of more than 50 years overlooking Hempstead Harbor.
She was the daughter of the filmmaker Dudley Murphy and Katharine Hawley, a Duncan dancer. Her grandfather was Boston painter and frame designer Hermann Dudley Murphy. Poco spent her early childhood on Finney Farm, her maternal grandmother’s home in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, a gathering place for artists and performers. She was later sent to the Out of Door School in Sarasota, FL, and attended Goddard College in Vermont. She studied painting with Anthony Toney at The New School for many years and will long be remembered by family and friends for her linoleum block print holiday cards. Her great work of art was her home in Sea Cliff, with its fanciful collection of mermaids and blue décor.
American composer Benjamin Lees died of heart failure on May 31, 2010 at North Shore LIJ Hospital in Glen Cove, at the age of 86.
Lees’ work rose to prominence in 1954 when the NBC Orchestra performed his Profile for Orchestra in a national broadcast. He was later awarded Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships, allowing him to live in Europe for seven years and present his works throughout the continent.

Karin A. Potemkin-Merriweather, 60, formerly of Glen Cove, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on March 12, 2010. She was predeceased by her devoted parents, Stanley Petroski and Katherine Dowd Petroski; her brother John F. Petroski; and two nephews, Craig James and Stanley Charles Petroski.

Kerry B. Kennedy, of Glen Head, passed quietly at home on May 23, 2010. Son of Carolyn and the late James Kennedy. Brother of James (Carolyn), Kathleen and John (Karen) Kennedy.
