Mary Ann Garone-LaBagh
Mary LaBagh, 95, a longtime resident of Glen Cove, passed away on July 15 at Glen Cove Hospital. She was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 27, 1914, the eldest daughter of the late Michael and Teresa Garone. She was predeceased by her three siblings, John Garone, Patrick Garone and Marion Garone-Stemcosky.
Edward John Mullen Jr.
Edward John Mullen Jr., of Greenvale, died on July 15, 2010. Husband of Erin. Father of Bernadette, Edward III, Eric and Evan. Son of Edward Sr. and Christine Goodfellow. Brother of James, Jennifer Goodfellow, Joseph, Marie, Brendan, Maura and Patrick. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Ruth Miklas. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary’s RC Church, Roslyn. Interment V.A. National Cemetery, Calverton. Samuel Underhill Mitchell
Samuel Underhill Mitchell, lifetime resident of East Williston, died on July 12, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Mitchell was born on Aug. 27, 1931, the only child of Myron Colyer Mitchell and Alice Jackson Underhill, two of Long Island’s early settler families. He was a direct descendant of Captain John Underhill who came to America in 1630 aboard the Winthrop Fleet. He spent much of his childhood on the Underhill farm in Jericho where his great-grandfather raised cattle and grew potatoes.
Dr. Nancy Powers
Dr. Nancy Powers, of Locust Valley, died on July 11, 2010 at North Shore LIJ Hospital in Manhasset, of cancer. She was 61.
Nancy Spinning Powers was born Feb. 20, 1949 in Glen Cove, daughter of Barbara Spinning Powers and the late Augustin Jay Powers Jr. She graduated from the Green Vale and Foxcroft Schools and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in 1971. Dr. Powers was awarded her doctorate in psychology from the University of Denver, followed by a fellowship at the Harvard Medical School in neuropsychology and behavioral medicine. She received a master of science degree in pediatrics from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center as part of her physician assistant training.
Mildred (Mimi) Lore, 47-year resident of Glen Cove and for the last seven years a resident of Port Washington, passed away peacefully after a long illness on July 9, 2010 at home. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene Lore.
Survived by her children, Lynn and Dan Couture of Port Washington, Ken and Pat Lore of Bethesda, MD, Stephanie Banach of Melville, Karen and Serge Papasergiou of Sea Cliff. She leaves eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care, 99 Sunnyside Blvd., Woodbury, NY 11797.
