Known as the ultimate caregiver, Mr. Harnett shepherded the care of thousands of Long Islanders in his role as president/CEO of Family & Children’s Association, a human care agency serving Long Island’s neediest population. Mr. Harnett passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 23, 2010.In addition to his role at Family & Children’s, Mr. Harnett served as advisor to The Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, member (formerly, Secretary of the Board and member of the Executive Committee); The Kimmel Housing Development Foundation, Inc., member, Board of Directors; Long Island Federally Qualified Health Center, Chair, Board of Directors; New York State Association of Family Service Agencies, Vice President and Chair of the Advocacy Committee; New York State Health Foundation, Special Opportunity Grants, Peer Review Committee; United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Consultant, Management Training; The United Way of Long Island, Vice President, Agency Executives Council; Anna and Philip Kimmel Foundation, Advisor and Community Advocates, Board member.

Jean Harvey Sack, of Locust Valley and East Norwich and more recently of Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on Jan. 31, 2010. Born March 29, 1923, in Stranraer, Scotland, Jean immigrated to the U.S. in May of 1927 with her mom and brothers aboard the ship Transylvania, where they were met in New York Harbor by her dad, who had arrived ahead of them.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Sack; and her five children: Russell and Ellen Sack of Novato, CA, Chuck and Jill Sack of Austin, TX, Barbara and Jim Brooks of Austin, TX, Gerry and Angelo Curro of Golden, CO, and Vance and Meg Sack of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jenny Sack, Emily and husband John Cunnie, Joss and Rory McKernan, Dylan and Stuart Sack, Stephen and Nina Curro and Rebecca and Stephanie Sack.

Mary Barbara (“Mary Ann”) Redis, age 71, died Jan, 23, 2010 after a valiant struggle with lung cancer surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends. Daughter of the late Kathleen and John Maher. Wife of the late Carl Redis. Mother of Michael J. Volpe (Eileen), Elizabeth Catanzano (Kerry), Tara Volpe, Philip J. Volpe (Sylvia) and John F. Born Sept. 25, 1938, in the Bronx, New York, Mary Ann eventually moved with her mother, father and nine siblings to Glen Cove before marrying Joseph Volpe where she raised their five children. She worked in the local community and served for a number of years with the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce in an administrative capacity. She married Carl Redis in August 1977. Mary Ann was an active member of the Glen Cove Community Center and she will be forever missed by her friends and neighbors at the Glen Pearsall apartments where she lived the last years of her life in complete happiness serving on various committees, sitting poolside for days on end and traveling the world with her friends from Glen Pearsall and the Senior Center.
