Joseph C. Markowski
Joseph C. (Joey) Markowski, of Glen Cove, died on April 14, 2010 in his 57th year. Son of he late Joseph F. and Marjorie G. (nee Woods). Brother of Victoria Markowski. Uncle of William (Corey) Ceglia and Corinne (Christopher) Ortiz. Great-uncle of Jack and Ryan Ortiz. Friend to many.
Joey was a very respected teacher who taught with Carmine Appice at his drum clinic and was also a former drummer with Twisted Sister AKA Joey Brighton. Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Patrick. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Alice “Dolly” Renchard, formerly of Glen Cove and Old Brookville, died on Sept. 26, 2009 at age 94. Wife of the late William S. Mother of Christine Huffman (Keith), Cynthia French and the late Jeanie. Grandmother of eight. Great-grandmother of 17. Joe B. Blue, 88, of Glen Cove, died April 10, 2010. He was a WWII Army veteran. Husband of Ellen (nee Walthers). Brother of Edwin Martin Blue and the late Thelma Alrich, Verna Wass, Sylvia Dunford, John D. and Archie M. Blue. Also survived by his nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews. Anne C. Foster died on April 8, 2010. Anne was a lifelong resident of Glen Cove for 83 years. She passed peacefully to be with God in Heaven and to join her beloved husband Harry. Loving mother of five children, Karen Neillands of Huntington, Barbara Foster of Vero Beach, FL, Harry Foster Jr. of W. Babylon, Joanne Kerner of Sebastian, FL, and Jeffrey Foster (Lori) of Glen Cove. Cherished grandmother of ten grandchildren and great- grandmother of one. Anne leaves behind her caring and devoted sister Catherine Broda, also of Glen Cove and many nieces and a nephew. She will be missed dearly by her many friends.
Pierre Raymond Warny, of Port Washington, died on April 9, 2010 at the age of 94. He was a WWII veteran serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He was co-founder of the Toy Balloon Corp. in New York City with his sister the late Helen Weihs. Husband of 68 years to Irene. Father of Joellen (Bill) Ahmuty and Pierre Raymond (Nancy) Warny Jr. Grandfather of Elizabeth (Jim) Silveria, William R. (Monica) Ahmuty, Michael (Kaci) Ahmuty, Peter Warny and great-grandfather of Will, Chris and Jack Silveria, Will and Caitlin Ahmuty and Riley and Cassidy Ahmuty. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass St. Peter of Alcantara RC Church. Interment St. Charles Cemetery. Rebecca “Betty” York, of Westbury, died on April 7, 2010. Wife of the late James. Mother of James Jr. (the late Lydia), Sheila Fontana, Adam and Jade York Karacus (Suleyman). Grandmother of Bonnie and Kerry Fontana, Jason and Jesse York and Denniz Karacus. She was an unofficial mother and an inspiration to many. Elsie Ann Morley, of Glen Cove, died on April 7, 2010. Wife of the late George. Mother of George (Joann). Grandmother of Patricia Ann. James J. Rotunno died on April 6, 2010. He was a lifelong resident of Glen Cove for 79 years. He was born on Dec. 10, 1930. He was a retired veteran of the Korean War and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the 2nd Division, 23rd Infantry Regiment, B Company. James also received many other commendations, medals and badges to commemorate his combat actions in North Korea.
Angelo R. D’Avino, of Sea Cliff, died on April 5, 2010. Husband and best friend of Wendy. Father of Richard Davino (Deborah Frank) and Katharine Boyle (David). Grandfather of Maxwell and Rebecca Davino. Brother-in-law of Tess Davino and many nieces and nephews.
Alkmini Bitsis died on April 2, 2010 at age 80. Sister of the late Thalia (Angelo Joumpas) of Glen Cove and the late Julia (Costa Licopoulos). Cousin of Kleoniki Werthmuller (Theodore). Also survived by Amalia Bitsis and nieces and nephews. Arrangements made by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Service officiated by Fr. John Vlahos of the Greek Orthodox Church of Holy Resurrection. Interment East Hillside Cemetery.
