Yolanda Cardone (nee Clemente). Wife of the late Alfred. Mother of Peter, Maria, Jeanine and Chistopher Duvally and the late Alfred. Grandmother of Michael and Jacqueline.
She was a Catholic school teacher for 32 years at St. Aidan’s in Williston Park. Yolanda was a loving inspiration to her family and students and a thoughtful and caring friend and neighbor in the hamlet of Bellerose. She was dedicated to her work and community and gave of herself unselfishly.

Margaret Granberg, of Glen Cove, died on Jan. 12, 2010. Beloved wife of the late John. Devoted mother of John Jr. Loving sister of Charles Grella, Helen Ledzian, Angie Ritchie and Elizabeth O’Neill. Hugh M. Whitton Jr., of Glen Cove, died on Jan. 9, 2010. Beloved husband and best friend of Leah. Devoted father of Randy (Peggy), Billy, Kathy (David), Patti and the late Hugh III. Cherished grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of two. Dear son of the late Hugh and Emily Whitton. Hugh was a Navy veteran and will be sorely missed by all whose lives have been touched by his kindness, love and wisdom over his 78 years. Ann Brandenburg Walsh, wife of the late Thomas E. Walsh, and a resident of the Glen Cove area for 56 years died on Jan. 6, 2010 at 84 years of age. Mother of Susan (Eoin) Sprott, Peter T., M. Brandon (Lynn), T. Andrew (Maureen), Jonathan B. (Patrice) and Virginia H. (Sally). Grandmother of Stephen, Jennifer, Sean, Corbett, Matthew and Meghan Walsh. Her cousin, Lorraine Smith Nicklas of Frederick, MD, also survives Mrs. Walsh. She was the daughter of the late J. Harry Brandenburg and Virginia Howard Smith Brandenburg, born in Frederick, MD. and a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, MD, and Tobe-Coburn in New York City.
She formerly had been a fashion copywriter for Tennessee Eastman in New York City. For the past 28 years she was library assistant at Webb Institute, a college in Glen Cove. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s RC Church, member of the Glen Cove Women’s Club and a family member of the Sea Cliff Yacht Club, where her husband was commodore from 1972 – 1974. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass was held at St. Patrick’s RC Church with burial in Locust Valley Cemetery.

Queenie Galante, beloved mother of Glenn, mother-in-law to Deborah (nee Testa), grandmother of Lisa, Glenn Jr. and Alison, great-grandmother of Ashley and Justin, passed away on Jan. 6, 2010 just 24 days shy of her 100th birthday. Memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff on Jan. 30 at noon.

Paul Geddes Pennoyer Jr. was awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism for Air Group 28. Attached to the U.S.S. Monterey, he was operating against major units of the Japanese fleet during the first battle of the Philippines Sea on June 20, 1944. At the age of 89, he died on Jan. 7, 2010 in Locust Valley. The cause was congestive heart failure his family said. Among his other awards during WWII was the air medal for meritorious air strikes in the Solomon Islands in June and July 1943. In lieu of his second medal, he was presented the Gold Star by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal in September of 1944. As a pilot of the Torpedo Bombers, Pennoyer was awarded a second Gold Star. In lieu of a third air medal, Pennoyer was presented a Gold Star again with his achievement as pilot of a Torpedo Bomber in the Philippines May through December 1944. In March 1943, he spent a month crossing the Pacific on a supply ship with John F. Kennedy, who became a lifelong friend.
