Charles Edward Murcott
Charles Edward Murcott, of Glen Cove, died on Oct. 20, 2009 at age 89. A graduate of Wesleyan University, he was a WWII US Navy veteran. He was a retired president, chairman and board member of Lumex, parent company of Cybex International, a LI-based manufacturer of medical and rehabilitation equipment that he founded in 1947. He was an active volunteer and philanthropist, serving as chairman of Huntington Hospital’s Board from 1985-90. He also served on the board of Nature Conservancy, the LI Association and as president of Huntington Country Club. Husband of Constance (nee Hillery) for 67 years. Father of Peter (Fran), Susan Coffman (Ralph), Elizabeth Beach (CA Beach) and Thomas (Paula). Grandfather of Kristen, Dylan, Connor, Travis, Madeline, Amelia, Louisa and Lila. Service and interment private. Arrangements made by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Donations may be made to Huntington Hospital.
Chester J. Huestis
Chester J. Huestis, formerly of Port Washington, died on Oct. 19, 2009 at age 51. Son of Irene (nee Mioduszewski) of the Glen Cove Senior Center and the late George. Brother of Joseph, Marianne Coelho (Robert). Uncle to Victoria, Adam, Allison and Daniel. Life long partner of John Frisbie. Mary T. Scaramuzzo, of Glen Cove, died on Oct. 7, 2009. Wife of the late William. Sister of Patricia (Jack) McGill, Kenneth (Beverly) Moore and Grace Moore. Long Island Author, Businessman Donald E. Axinn Dies at Age 80
Donald Everett Axinn, a resident of Sands Point, died on Tuesday, Oct. 13 following a brave battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.
Mr. Axinn spent 50 years as a developer, writer, philanthropist and filmmaker. His parents emigrated from Russia during the Pogroms. A first-generation American, he built the Axinn name into one of the most respected with regard to building and investing in the New York metropolitan area. He designed and developed several million square feet of award-winning buildings and office parks before merging in 1999 with Brandywine Realty Trust, a NYSE company. He sat on their board of trustees for many years.
