Obituary: Ethel Telesca

Ethel Telesca, of New Fairfield, Connecticut, died on Friday, April 12 at the age of 90, at her daughter’s home in Glen Head. She was born on January 10, 1923 in Brooklyn. She studied fashion design and graduated from Washington Irving High School in Manhattan. At 18, she married Jerome Balizer and they moved to Detroit until the outbreak of WWII, when they returned to Brooklyn. They had two children, Ginger and Kenneth. The marriage ended in divorce.

 

Although her dream was to be a fashion designer, life took her in other directions. For many years she worked as a medical administrator located in the New York City Garment District, which was the first medical center providing insurance coverage for organized labor.

Ethel M. Grieco of Glen Cove died on April 17, 2013. Formerly of Montauk and Cocoa Beach, FL. (Glen Cove middle school teacher for 27 years). Beloved wife of the late Michael A. Devoted mother of Dr. Michael B. (Christine), Gail M. (Tom) Wandzilak and Susan J. (Joe) Durdaller. Obituary: Daisy Fung

Daisy Fung of Glen Cove and San Francisco died on April 14, 2013.  Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lau Ting Sam, graduated from the University of Syracuse with a BA in psychology and received her master’s degree in educational psychology in 1934 from Teacher’s College, Columbia University.  Mrs.Fung was a professor of psychology and English at the Sun Yat Sen University in Canton, China, during the 1940’s. She later served as an Education Officer with the Hong Kong government for 17 years as a supervisor and administrator of schools, and as a counselor to in-service teacher training and teacher certification programs. During the 1960’s Mrs. Fung was an administrator of the Head Start Program in San Francisco. Mrs. Fung was a passionate humanitarian and was active in relief work with the Red Cross and the YW/YMCA during the was years in China and later San Francisco. Mrs. Fung is survived by four of her 13 siblings, two daughters, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary: Vincent Rosario Gianmusso

Vincent Rosario Gianmusso of Glen Cove died on April 13, 2013. Son of Arcangelino and Josephine (D’Arrigo). Beloved spouse of 62 years of Doris Rose (Colombo). Loving father to Vincent Louis (Clare), Susan Joy, Roberta Ann Cerasi (Luciano) and Michele Joli Jansch (Russell). Doting grandfather of Gabriella, Annette, Natalie, Christina, Alexander, Cassie, Paul, PJ, Rodrigo and Lee. Beloved uncle to many. He was a proud Army veteran, serving as a sergeant in the 3rd Calvary in the European Theatre during World War II. After the war, he returned to City College, graduating in 1948 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He subsequently received his license as a professional engineer. Most of his professional career was spent at Elm Coated Fabrics where he was a pioneer in the field of extruded plastic film production. He formed many deep and lasting personal and professional relationships there and to the end reflected fondly on his work at “The Plant.” While in college, he joined an Italian-American fraternity. Alpha Phi Delta, the brothers and their families have been a continuing presence in the family’s life. From conventions to picnics, to weddings and funerals, APD was never far from his thoughts. He took great pride in the accomplishments of all his children and grandchildren, offering support and encouragement when necessary, congratulations when called for, advice and guidance always. He taught his children the meaning and value of family and they will celebrate his memory. Religious service at McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.
