Richard J. Guido “Dick” died peacefully on May 9, 2013. Born in New York City on July 24, 1917 to Rose and Salvatore “Sharkey.” He spent three years on active duty in the US Army Air Force in World War II. After his discharge, he completed his education, receiving his degree from Brooklyn College. A longtime resident with his wife Miriam of East Island, Glen Cove. Dick launched his own highly successful public relations firm out of Bethpage. He is survived by his twin sons Richard and Robert, his grandchildren Dare, Alexander, John, Robert and Cristina; his great grandchildren, Benjamin, David, Rachel, Amanda, Katie, Leah and Julie. Well known for his love of competitive swimming, Dick competed in U.S. Masters Swimming events nationally and internationally into his 80’s. He was a world champion in his age group in several long distance events and was name a U.S. Masters All-American. Dick was a YMCA board member for many years. He also found time to be a little league coach, fine art collector and avid photographer. Arrangements by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home. Funeral mass held at St. Rocco’s RC Church. Interment private.
