Nicholas “Nick” Brescia, a 41-year resident of Glen Head, passed away in his home on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 94. In 1943 he joined the army with duties that included assignments as an MP and Motor Pool Sergeant. After WWII he married Claire Severino Free and moved to Long Island. Trained by his father as a plasterer he became a sought-out craftsman and the owner of a successful plastering business. In 1972 he moved to Glen Head, where he joined the Glenwood Landing Post of the American Legion. He served in various capacities and eventually became an Honorary Lifetime Member. Nick and Claire were active members of the Golden Ring. He was predeceased by his youngest brother, John and oldest brother Salvatore. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 66 years, Claire. Loving father of Richard Brescia (Joanne) and Louie Free (Sharon). Cherished grandfather of Graham and Lauren Free, Tanya Brescia-Oddo and Alexandra Donnelly and great-grandfather of Hunter Pokorney. He is also survived by brother Vincent, sister-in-law Margaret Donaldson and numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting held at Whitting Funeral Home 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head. Funeral Mass held at St. Hyacinth R. C. Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery with military honors.
