Obituary: Evelyn Stone McLaughlin

Evelyn Stone McLaughlin
Evelyn Stone McLaughlin, of Glen Head, passed away on March 21, 2010 at the age of 96. Beloved wife of William Watson; mother of Lee Cymbalist; devoted grandmother to William Cymbalist (Marissa Reyes) and Scott Cymbalist. She is also survived by her youngest brother Byron Jones (Elaine). Evelyn’s eldest brother Buddy Jones (Rita) and middle brother Arnold Jones (Florence) predeceased as did her brother-in-law George McLaughlin (Luella).

Evelyn was born and a lifelong resident of Port Washington until 1951 when she moved to Glen Head with her husband William and daughter Lee. She worked at Johnson’s in Bethpage during WWII as a draftperson. In later years she was involved with many artistic endeavors, the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff and the Goldren Ring having served as president in 1983-84. She loved crafts and two of her prized pieces were 3’x5’ pictures she not only hooked but cut and dyed the wool for.

A memorial service and celebration of her new life with Christ will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff, Downing and Carpenter Avenues. Guests are invited to join the family for a reception following the service in the fellowship hall adjoining the church. Donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Sea Cliff, the Salvation Army or Disabled American Veterans.
