Obituary: Charles J. Donohue Jr.

Charles J. “Buzz” Donohue Jr., of Amityville, died on April 15, 2010. “The kind of man who would give you the shirt off of his back.” A hard working man, a tradesman; and like his father Charlie worked for many years as an auto mechanic. A very generous, kind, caring person who did things in his own time. Always willing to help anyone in need. Never turning anyone away with a flat tire or a “could you just take a look and see what you think.”

A man large in deeds, sometimes quiet with words, especially during the working day. He had concerns for humanity, intolerance for small mindedness and injustice and he looked at things and life from every angle with discernment and with an open heart.

Charlie loved fixing and making things work, he was fascinated with the intricate details, the challenge and he was thorough. Rebuilding car engines and boat motors were hobbies as were small craft and deep water fishing.

To all of us who loved him, knew him, said hello to him everyday, allowed him to touch our lives gently, with his great compassion and humility; he will live on in our hearts and remind us to strive to live as large in our own deeds.

Son of Billie and the late Charles. Fiancé of Nadine. Brother of Scottie, Jeanne and Beth. He is also survived by his closest friends as brothers; Jay, Steve and Rodney. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral service at the funeral home. Interment private. Contributions may be made to the Sea Cliff Fire Dept., Roslyn Ave., Sea Cliff, NY 11579.
