Thursday, 02 July 2009 13:55On Thursday, June 25th, the sun peeked through the clouds and shined upon Robert M. Finley Middle School where the PTA hosted its first annual Tournament Day. The day had been planned as a celebration of a year of hard work by students, teachers and parents alike. We were not disappointed! The lower field of the Finley Middle School was bustling with physical, yet fun activities for the children, while parents prepared a schoolwide barbecue lunch for all.
There is no way the PTA could have pulled off an event of this size without the generosity of the Glen Cove community. Many thanks go to Valley Sports, The Glen Cove Fire Dept., Stop & Shop, Burger King and North Shore Farms for their support and to Glen Cove CARES who provided sunscreen for all the participants. Parent volunteers Leslie Dwyer, Michelle Mazeijka, and Laurie Maher worked to secure donations to help defray some of the costs for the day, the countless parents who prepared the barbecue and shucked all the corn and Eric Tripp who worked for over a week to plan one of the most popular activities of the day. But of course it was the entire staff of our school who made the day the success it was. The overwhelming support of everyone involved was an outstanding example of the strength of our Parent Teacher Association and served as a true example of the spirit of Robert M. Finley Middle School. Most important of all are two gentlemen who were essential to the success of our event. Mr. Joe Solomito, our Head Custodian, who served as our Head Chef for the Day and set up the grounds and Mr. Steve Tripp, Physical Education Teacher, who planned each event and served as MC for the morning’s events. The only event that could possibly be more successful or fun would be the second annual Tournament Day.
On behalf of the PTA I would like to thank everyone involved and I look forward to working with you all in the future.
President, Finley PTA
