The Glen Cove SAGE Foundation (Senior Activity Generational Endowment), which consists entirely of an all-volunteer board, promises that your generosity will make a difference in the daily lives of so many of our senior neighbors, relatives and friends and, hopefully, one day, in your life.
The mission of SAGE is to assist the Glen Cove Senior Center in pursuing and providing the highest quality of programs and services for senior citizens in Glen Cove, Glen Head, Glenwood Landing, Sea Cliff, and their surrounding communities.
Through fundraising, grant writing, outreach and advocacy, the SAGE Foundation supports the Center, helping to sustain weekly health screenings and consultations from the Visiting Nurse Association and Lifelong Learning Seminars, providing daily care for the frailest of our seniors, and taking over 1,000 registered participants 60 years of age and older through the journey of aging. Some of our members seek the Center for companionship in their older years. For others the Center provides the stimulation of recreational and intellectual pursuits. Others come to our Center because it is their only meal of the day, and the only chance they have to hear their own voice and the voices of others.
This past April, the Glen Cove Senior Center received a prestigious national Mindalert Award by The American Society on Aging and Met Life Foundation for its Lifelong Learning Program, a program funded by SAGE. In May, SAGE received a grant for an exciting “Campaign Against Dementia” from the Large Grants Program of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock to address vital brain fitness, those struggling with mild cognitive impairment, support for caregivers and greater community awareness.
With the rise in the number of baby boomers in this country, and the uncertainty in the level of funding from governmental sources due to the challenging economy, it has become even more compelling for the SAGE Foundation to raise funds that allow the Glen Cove Senior Center to sustain the services it currently provides. Please consider the value of a healthy senior community when making a charitable contribution this year.
