Letter: Family Awareness Day

On Saturday June 14, several hundred Glen Cove residents were able to receive information about local services and programs that promote family health, family unity, and a substance abuse free family environment. The 7th Annual Family Awareness Day sponsored by SAFE’s Glen Cove PRIDE Project Coalition was a tremendous success.

On behalf of SAFE’s Glen Cove PRIDE Project Coalition, we wish to thank all who helped to make this possible: City of Glen Cove Community Development Agency (CDA), Parks and Recreation, City Hall, Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department, the Tobacco Action Coalition of Long Island, Kiwanis Club of Glen Cove, Glen Cove Day Care Center, chiropractor Maxine Mayreis, psychotherapist Gabriela Weinberg-Gitlin, GMA Martial Arts, Economic Opportunity Council (EOC), Cove Sports Academy and Nassau County Council of Girl Scouts.

Generous donations from: the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club, Page One Restaurant, Stop & Shop, Starbucks, St. Rocco’s Panetteria, Subway, OGI Nails, Alice Christine Salon, Babi Nails Spa, Andros Grill, Gonzalo’s American Café, Locust Valley Bagels, Adventureland Amusement Park, Fun Zone, Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium, Long Island Children’s Museum, Cradle of Aviation Museum and Target for raffle prizes.

Event volunteers Georgie Connett, Mary Berhang, Mary Cooper and AnneMarie Gailius. Coalition members Donna Christ, Laurent Caballero and Reverend Wendler and volunteers Adam Weiner, Roseanne Suozzi, Patti Averopoulos and Kiwanis Key Club Student Jennifer Jessica Benites-Jaco.

A special thank you to attendees Mayor Reginald Spinello, City Councilman Anthony Gallo, and Lieutenant Christopher Ortiz for all their support and cooperation throughout the year. The City of Glen Cove’s Parks & Recreation department, who not only helped with the use of Morgan Park, but the department’s director Darcy Belyea and staff José Benitez and Cipriano Yanes graciously assisted with event preparations and set-up, creating a seamless feel to the day’s festivities.
