Sea Cliff residents Dina and Rollin have the right idea. They want to vote for Mayor Bruce Kennedy, who is running for a seat in the State Assembly, in the Republican Primary in September.
So, they temporarily changed their voter registration from Democrat to Republican by filling in an application at the post office and mailing it right from there to the Nassau County Board of Elections the same day. We can do the same if we mail off the request by July 15.
I think it’s a fine idea. That means I can vote for Bruce in the Primary. If he wins there, I can vote for him or Democrat incumbent Chuck Lavine of Glen Cove in November’s general election. Of course, nobody knows who I’m voting for. No fuss, no muss. I can switch back to Democrat if I wish at any time.
Think about it. It’s a way to help Bruce Kennedy get to the proverbial starting gate of the general election, a position that the GOP promised when they asked him to run with them in April. I don’t know about you, but broken promises are a pet peeve of mine. So let’s do it, give Bruce a fighting chance if he wants to serve us at a higher level.
