Friday, 16 April 2010 00:00I wish to express my deepest sympathies to the Polish Community following the tragic death of Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski. President Kaczynksi was a strong ally of the United States and was a dominant force in post-Communist Poland. I am sure he will be sorely missed.
On that tragic day last week, President Kaczynksi and his wife were traveling with many of Poland’s political leaders to a commemorative ceremony at a location near Katyn forest where 20,000 Polish officers were massacred 70 years ago. The worldwide Polish community is now trying to cope with another horrific tragedy. President Kaczynski was a reliable voice for the Polish people. The terrible plane crash which claimed his life stilled that voice, but we will long remember all he did to advance Poland in his years of public service.
On behalf of my family and my staff, I extend our profound condolences to all who share this painful loss.
