The 2010 North Shore football season got under way Saturday, Sept. 11, with a stunning 27-15 victory over Clarke High School. After the National Anthem and a moment of silence to honor the victims of 9/11 and their families, senior Evan Vandoros took the opening kick-off 77 yards for the score. Vandoros finished the day with 212 total yards including 121 rushing yards and 28 receiving. Seniors Steven Ragussa, Nick Capparelli and Denis Hickey each had a touchdown for the Vikings. Hickey passed for 4 completions totaling 96 yards and Capparelli rushed for 95 total yards on the day.
The Vikings defense was stellar, holding Clarke to only 24 yards in the first half. Their defensive line led by Vandoros, Chris Zbikowski, Tom McCarthy, Joe Manzione and Dillon Sedat combined for 3 quarterback sacks on the day. Cornerback Alex Neal had a fumble recovery in the first half. The Vikings next home game is Thursday, Sept.16, kick-off is 4:20 p.m.
