The North Shore Junior Varsity boys soccer team finished off their season with a promising record of 6-4-1. They started out with a new coach, Kevin Carpenter, and new players who all contributed to the team’s success.
The team started practicing vigorously in late August, and through their practice came great success. The players started off with the basics, and eventually worked their way up to a higher level, increasing their skill level each day. The three captains, Doug Manouge, Connor Costello and Logan Kuperferman, helped to organize the practices and make the practice experience better for the whole team. With enough practices, the team was comfortable playing with each other and were ready to play in games.
The first time the team played together was in a friendly scrimmage vs. Garden City, and they defeated them 2-0. The season only got better from there, as the confidence level and team spirit was very high after winning that first scrimmage. Everyone played a role during the games. The team would always have many substitutes ready to go with fresh legs and that is one reason for their success. The team fought very hard to be successful all the way to the last game, which was against Valley Stream North. The team had already beaten Valley Steam North 5-0 at their home field, so they were going in with a good attitude away at the Valley Stream North field. The team was down 1-0 at halftime, but through their hard work, 2 goals were scored by Mike Saboski and Matt Pavlica, leaving a final, victorious score of 2-1.
The team consists of a wide range of skill level between the freshman and sophomores. The team’s lineup is Nick Caldari (sophomore), Jake Frittolla (sophomore), Lawrence Sun (sophomore), Logan Kupferman (sophomore), Anthony Falcone (freshman), Ariel Chevez (sophomore), Kacper Kret (sophomore), Mike Saboski (sophomore), Morgan DeMartini (sophomore), Edward Dunphy (sophomore), Matt Pavlica (sophomore), Kevin Ojeda (sophomore), Aaron Porturas (sophomore), Christopher Oballe (sophomore), Drew Helling (sophomore), Doug Manouge (sophomore), Connor Costello (sophomore), Andrew Smith (freshman), Dylan Shane (freshman), Jack O’Brien (freshman), Sebastian Milo (freshman), Kevin Lynch (freshman), Ryan Tornatore (freshman), and Aidan Lewis (freshman).
Next year, the sophomores have high ambitions for playing varsity soccer, and the freshman are looking forward to another great junior varsity season.
