The Glen Cove Midget Red defeated Levittown 39-26 to win the Conference Championship game and proceed to the “Super Bowl” against Plainedge on Nov. 27.
The Cardinals played their best game of the season in this second round playoff game on the road at Levittown. The Cardinals’ offense, led by Forrest Demetri(QB), struck early on the opening drive which set the stage for their offensive dominance the rest of the game. Dominick Genzale(RB) was on fire all game, running for 4 touchdowns behind an offensive line led by Lorenzo Recine and Kevin Napier, who dominated Levittown at the line of scrimmage. Mario Fischetti (RB) added 2 long touchdown runs, and Gianni Aboulehassan (FB) pounded Levittown’s defense on the ground.
Both Genzale’s and Fischetti’s running prowess, and impressive blocking from the offensive line and fullback Gianni Abouelhassan, never allowed Levittown’s defense to make it a close game. Also making key blocks to open up the Cardinals’ running game were Danny Serenger, Riley Altman, Will Merkel, Jimmy Serenger, Christian Gavin, Eitan Gitlin, Dominick DeChara and Brian Metz.
The Cardinals’ defense had an impressive game. Lineman Lorenzo Recine was able to fire in Levittown’s backfield all game making huge tackles. Gianni Abouelhassan, Jack Alletto, Nick Moroccu, John Mavlios, Peter Rodriguez, Forrest Demetri, Mario Fischetti and Dominick Genzale significantly contributed to the Cardinal’s defensive dominance. The Cardinals will conclude their season on Nov. 27 as they battle Plainedge for the Division Championship.
