The Glen Cove School District Athletics Department, Booster Club, varsity coaches and student-athletes from Glen Cove High School came together to recognize distinguished members of the varsity squads during this year’s Fall Athletics Awards Ceremony. The evening was highlighted by the presentation of the coveted Superintendent’s Award, which recognizes one student-athlete every athletic season who demonstrates the highest level of scholarship, leadership, and sportsmanship. This fall’s winner is senior Varsity Football player Nicholas Manzione.
Additional nominees for the Superintendent’s Award were Alison Abrams (Cross-Country), Alison Baade (Volleyball), Ariana Cavallone (Girls Soccer), Alexandra Gerin (Girls Tennis), and Erick Pajuelo (Boys Soccer).
“You are ALL winners in the arena of life,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Laria told the candidates after introducing each of them, highlighting their respective accomplishments, both on the field and off.
Other awards presented included the Booster Club Award, which honors an athlete from each team whom the coaches feel possesses school spirit, is conscientious, and is dedicated, and the Most Valuable Player Award, presented to the player in each sport voted by his or her teammates and coaches as being the most valuable performer to the team. Letters, pins, and plaques were also awarded to students in recognition of their participation in a particular sport.
The Girls Soccer team was recognized for winning their regular season Conference Championship as well as the Girls Tennis squad for winning their Division Title. Girls Soccer coach Pete Falen was also recognized as the Nassau Girls Soccer Coaches Association “Coach of the Year.”
