Glen Cove High School Boys Lacrosse

It was quite a year for the Glen Cove High School Boys Lacrosse Team, and for their accomplishments, the team was recently honored at the Nassau County Lacrosse Coaches Association Annual Awards Dinner. The team amassed a school record 11 wins during the season, and also set school records for team goals, assists and points scored.

Offensively, Eric Tripp once again led the Big Red and all of Nassau County in scoring with 94 points on 41 goals and 53 assists. Eric finishes his GC career with 315 points, which is a school record, and 8th best all-time in Nassau County. Dougie Tripp tied a school record with 51 goals and added 22 assists. Kevin Gardrvits added 39 goals and 14 assists, Tyler Ravener had 26 goals and 11 assists, Michael Pappachristou had 10 goals and 17 assists, Ryan Zupa had 14 goals and 3 assists, Sophomore Owen Valance had 8 goals and 10 assists, and Zach Rubin had 9 goals and 3 assists. Also scoring during the year for the Big Red were Adan Kornfeld, Chris Borer, Daven Plummer, Harrison Balisky, Charles Ring, Rafael Montes, Adam Ramadan, Mike Moglia, Phil Voegetlen and George Weck.

Defensively, Brendan Huggins stood tall in the cage with 251 saves on the year. Junior Michael Doxey added 25 saves for the year. The long poles were led by George Weck, Danny Mahoney, Garen Spendjian, Brandon Winkler, Lewis Linares and Phil Voegetlen.

Many of the Big Red players were honored by the NCLCA. Eric Tripp was named to the All-American Nominee team. Eric also received the Dave Leitsman Scholarship for Service to the Lacrosse Community. Dougie Tripp was named to the All-County team; Kevin Gardrvits, Michael Pappachristou and George Weck were named to the All-Conference team. In addition to the boy’s work on the field, they were also rewarded for their work in the classroom. The team was named a New York State Scholar-Athlete team. Eric was named to the Academic All-County Team. Dougie, George, Kevin and Michael were named to Academic All-Conference Team.

Coaches Steve Tripp, Frank Curatolo and Danny Marks are very proud of the team’s accomplishments over the year, and join the school district and the entire Glen Cove community congratulating the team for a great year and wishing the Class of 2009 good luck in the future!
