In the fourth quarter of a playoff game against powerhouse South Side, North Shore’s Justin Bell stood at the foul line, took a deep breath and made the last basket of his high school career. In his three years as a varsity player for the North Shore Schools, Justin scored 1,168 points, a school record, and finished his senior year as Long Island’s top scorer. He was selected as an All-county player for the second consecutive year and was chosen Conference Player of the Year by the coaches of Conference A-4. Bell will be playing basketball at the collegiate level next year.
As the contest against South Side wound down, Bell walked off the court, sat on the bench quietly, shook hands with his teammates, took one long last look around the gym and boarded the bus to go home.
