Glen Cove Junior Lacrosse Club

‘Late Knights’ win big in season opener

The Glen Cove Junior Lacrosse Club’s seventh- and eighth-grade team opened their season on the road against Half Hollow Hills and they left them running for the hills in an impressive 13 – 4 victory that included hat tricks by three different Glen Cove players.

Hats off to Geoffrey Field, Ryan Feldmann and Mike Hatala, Glen Cove’s ‘Big Mac Attack’ for their three goal performances and to Nicky Kiaer, Rob Cardali and Nick Schneider for tacking on the rest. Goalie Max Sutherland proved to be a valued pickup by defending 12 shots and nearly shutting out HHH in the second half. The transitional play and hustle of the midfielders carried the momentum of the game from the first to final whistle. Their next action is on April 15 at 5 p.m. in Oyster Bay.

The fifth- and sixth-grade ‘Mid Knights’ didn’t fare as well as they traveled to Levittown and ended up on the downside of a 12 – 6 game. Providing some of the punch was Kevin Heenan with a two goal/ one assist performance. Russell Perciballi also had two goals with Davey Moore and Sal Guastella each adding one-off assists from Robert McCarthy and Brandon Cossaro. The loss will hopefully refocus the squad as they prepare for their home opener on Sunday, April 15 at 9 a.m. at the City Stadium Lacrosse Field on Shore Road.
