The Glen Cove Junior Baseball & Softball Association (GCJB&SB) recently completed its free baseball training clinics for the kindergarten 6-year-olds in its program with Dom Gatti at the Cove Baseball Academy.
Gatti, varsity coach of the North Shore High School Vikings baseball team and former professional baseball player with the Texas Rangers organization, is renowned as one of the premier hitting instructors. Gatti also led the nation in hitting at the college level while at Adelphi University in 1993.
There were 30 young boys attending this free three-week clinic who received baseball training from Gatti and his instructors.
“It was a pleasure to begin teaching these young boys the key elements of playing America’s national pastime,” Gatti stated. “Glen Cove Junior Baseball & Softball provided a teaching clinic to these young men that most organizations would not even consider at their young ages. I believe training is key to teaching the fundamentals and to make baseball a fun activity for these young boys. Glen Cove Junior Baseball & Softball did a fine job.”
The Glen Cove Junior Baseball & Softball Association provides supervised recreational baseball to the youth of the community, teaching commitment, responsibility, team concepts and of course, baseball instruction.
Chairman Bruce A. Testa would like to remind everyone that opening day is Saturday, April 21, and begins with the annual parade from the Middle School to the John J. Maccarone Memorial Stadium. The opening ceremonies will feature local dignitaries, Glen Cove High School music talent, and a special tribute to Rob Kormoski, GCJB&SB long time commissioner and humanitarian who recently passed away. Everyone is welcome to attend.
