Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club announced Chris Martinez and Emil Martin as the September Youths of the Month and Lyasia Milledge, head group leader, as Professional of the Month.
Junior Youth of the Month Chris Martinez, age 7, has been a member of the club for two years. He is a second-grader at Deasy School. Chris is extremely busy at the club, participating in Video Club, Art Around the World, Friday’s Minute to Win It, Power Hour and Triple Play Daily Challenges. Chris excels both in and out of the classroom, is extremely polite, and is a great assistant during Power Hour to his peers.
Chris absolutely loves his community and would like to preserve it by becoming a lawyer when he gets older. According to Chris, “The club means a lot to me, more than you know. It’s a place where I can learn a lot. The more I learn, the better of a future I can have for myself.”
Senior Youth of the Month Emil Martin, age 12, has been a member of the club for two years. He is a seventh-grader at Robert Finley Middle School. Emil currently participates in Power Hour, Netsmartz, soccer, lacrosse, and Teen Challenges at The Boys & Girls Club. Emil loves participating in the various sports offered at the club and is an excellent leader and teammate. Emil aspires to become a mechanical engineer and is eager to build his own car. He finds car engines and how intricately they are built fascinating. Emil’s enthusiasm and eagerness to succeed is truly inspiring to the younger members.
According to Emil, “The club is where I can come after school to hang out with my friends, do my homework, and have fun. It’s nice knowing the club is always there for me.”
Professional of the Month Lyasia Milledge has been an employee of the club for five months as a head group leader. Lyasia absolutely loves working at the club and seeing the members thrive. Lyasia attends Nassau Community College where she studies paralegal and criminal law and aspires to become a criminal defense lawyer.
According to Lyasia, “The club is a great environment for our kids to make new friends and prosper. It is amazing to watch them grow and succeed in academics as well as in the many great programs the club offers.”
