The North Shore High School wrestling team had an outstanding performance at this year’s Charles McCullough Annual Holiday wrestling tournament at Glen Cove. Junior Hunter Sharf took home the 126-pound championship after defeating his Garden City opponent 6 to 5 in a tight finals match. At 170 pounds, senior Dan Grabher outscored his three opponents a combined 39 to 4 total points to walk though to another championship. Dan won this tournament last year at 160 pounds and has placed in it every year since seventh grade.
At 120 pounds, sophomore Tristain Vitale battled for his first medal taking second place. Teammate Wil Grogan, a 220-pound senior, also took home his first medal placing second. Senior Wil Blackburn wrestled hard at 160 pounds. His mettle was tested in the semis in a tight semifinals match that he lost 5-4 and went to four overtimes. Unbroken, he returned to win his third match of the day and take third place. Junior Brandon Sirlion placed at his first tournament at 182 taking home the fourth place trophy. Congratulations to all the wrestlers.
