Tears poured from the eyes of the North Shore Field Hockey Team after losing to Cold Spring Harbor in the Class B Quarterfinals. The Vikings finished their season 9-6. The team, which has shown tremendous growth in past two years, had an outstanding season finishing as League 2 Champs. Senior Kathleen Lennon was awarded All- County. She was also one of 10 athletes awarded All-State in Nassau County. Seniors Elle Hoffman and Melissa Meehan were recognized as Honorable Mention All- County. All-Conference honors were awarded to the team’s entire defense, including Lauren Gerard, Laura Wefer, Lauren Janelli, and Danielle Valasiadis. Junior forward Jennie Berglin was awarded All League. Junior forward/defender Christina DeMeo was honored with the Unsung Hero award.
“This particular team has been a pleasure to coach. They were connected not only as athletes but as friends. They truly bonded and supported one another,” said Coach Kellie Moritz. Congratulations to the Vikings on a successful season. Good luck to the seniors: Melissa Meehan, Elle Hoffman and Kathleen Lennon.
The North Shore boys cross country team finished the season in 6th place in the Conference. Although the team lost to only two teams in the conference during the regular season, injuries, illnesses and cold weather eventually took their toll. Seniors Mike Clausen and Matt Wefer scored first and second for the Vikings and were awarded All-Conference Honors. Eighth-grader Travis Laderer, who moved up from the Middle School to run Varsity, placed 3rd, followed by Max Korten and Alex Neal finishing up the top five. The JV Team ran their best races that day with Timmy Aughavin and Brian Michalak leading the way both under 21 minutes. Oscar Cisternos and Jon Mattner also ran their best 5K races that day as did Greg Bafitis and Charlie Helling. Mike Clausen and Matt Wefer progressed to the State Qualifying Meet Nov. 7 at Bethpage State Park.
