Glen Cove HS Welcomes Students from Denmark

On Dec. 4, 46 students from the Hjemly Boarding School in Hillerslev, Denmark arrived at Glen Cove High School as part of their school’s 2009 Basketball Tour.

After being greeted by the District Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics Dr. Scott Silverman, the students from Denmark were each paired up with a Glen Cove buddy to shadow them in their classes throughout the day. After the school day, the students scrimmaged with the Glen Cove Boys Junior Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball, and Boys Varsity Basketball teams. The evening culminated in a mix and mingle, potluck dinner, and music, provided by a deejay.

When asked to comment about the visit, Dr. Silverman stated, “I am so happy to be able to bring such a wonderful cultural experience to the Glen Cove School District. One cannot put a price tag on the camaraderie, the fast friendships, and the experiences that transpired.”

Host families in the community provided sleeping accommodations for the Danish students, and then they were off to another destination the next morning.
