On Wednesday, Dec. 23 North Shore Wrestlers had their league opener hosting Cold Spring Harbor. After losing the first match of the night, North Shore went on to win every other contested match beating the Sea Hawks 54-17. The Vikings were led by seniors Pierce Jensen and Tom Shaw who both pinned their opponents. Juniors Nick Capparrelli and Jim Dromm also recorded pins while the Sea Hawks forfeited around Junior Dean Shmuley. Recording their first varsity wins were sophomores Jake Alverson, Matt Abromawitz and Freshman Adam Lavander. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Mike Mendolson and freshman Dan Grabher, who both recorded wins.
On Tuesday, Dec. 15 the North Shore Varsity Girls Basketball Team had its first Conference Game. After a Conference Championship last year in Conference ABC-III, the girls moved up to the ultra-competitive Conference ABC-II. Their first opponent was the Green Dragons of Westbury. The Vikings came out in their press early in an attempt to create the pace necessary to wear down their opponent. In the early going, Westbury was able to break the press as North Shore found themselves down 23-13 with six minutes to go in the second quarter. The constant pressure, however, gave way to a huge Vikings run, as they closed the half on a 14-4 run to tie the score 27-27. The second half was dominated by the Vikings as they took a 60-48 lead with 2:00 minutes to go, en route to their 62-54 victory. The offense was lead by Amanda Johansen, on her 16th birthday, who had her first career triple-double, with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 steals. In addition, senior Elle Hoffman scored a career high 10 points to help seal the win. The Vikings next home game is on Dec. 29, at 11:30 a.m. Come out and support North Shore!
This week, sporting their new look maroon jerseys, the North Shore High School Men’s Bowling Team split their two matches. The Vikings win came in a dominant victory against Carle Place. The team then fought hard against Sewanhaka, but came out on the losing end. Great bowling this week from DJ More, Austin Simpson, Kenny Zukas, and Eric Ohman. Freshman Dan Syracuse bowled his first, and certainly not his last game as a member of the Varsity team.
