On Wednesday, Dec. 23 North Shore Wrestlers had their league opener hosting Cold Spring Harbor. After losing the first match of the night, North Shore went on to win every other contested match beating the Sea Hawks 54- 17. The Vikings were led by Seniors Pierce Jensen and Tom Shaw who both pinned their opponents. Juniors Nick Capparrelli and Jim Dromm also recorded pins while the Sea Hawks forfeited around junior Dean Shmuley. Recording their first varsity wins were sophomores Jake Alverson, Matt Abromawitz and freshman Adam Lavander. Rounding out the lineup was sophomore Mike Mendolson and freshman Dan Grabher who both recorded wins.
North Shore sent a very small team this year to the Glen Cove Holiday Tournament on Dec. 30. With a small line up and a few injuries, the team had only nine wrestlers entered but managed to have six place in the tournament. Senior Pierce Jensen took 1st pinning all four of his opponents in the 145 lb. weight class. Junior Dean Shumley also took 1st at 130 lbs. while also grabbing the Most Outstanding Wrestler award. His 4-3 win capped a run through the toughest weight class at the tournament. Taking 3rd place was Junior Nick Capparelli at 189 lbs. Sophomore Jake Alverson narrowly missed advancing to the finals losing 12-11 in the final seconds of the 152 lb. semifinal match. Freshman Adam Lavender also took a 3rd place at 103 lbs. while freshman Dan Grabher took 4th after narrowly losing to a tough semifinal match 8-7 at the 119 lb. weight. North Shore Hosts league favorite Seaford Wednesday night at the Home. North Shore is 1-0 in league play.
