Boy’s Lacrosse

Last week, the Glen Cove Boy’s Lacrosse Team opened conference play with a convincing 12-3 victory over the Malverne/East Rockaway Rockin’ Mules.  Leading the way offensively for the Big Red were Dougie Tripp and Owen Valance each scoring four goals, Ryan Zupa had two, Daven Plummer and Chris Borer each scored one. Kevin Nicholas added three assists and Mike Moglia had one.

Defensively, Glen Cove had an outstanding game turned in by goalie Michael Doxey with 12 saves, and long poles Andrew Ayo, Lewis Linares, Aaron Sylver, and Brandon Winkler. The Big Red limited the Rockin’ Mules to just one goal in each of the first three quarters, while killing all of Malverne’s Extra Man opportunities.

Special recognition goes to Shaheem Lilly winning three of four faceoffs, Charles Ring for being the groundball leader and Chris Saperstein playing in his first Varsity game.

This week, the Boy’s Lacrosse Team had an excellent week, winning two key conference games. In the first game, a 10-2 win over West Hempstead, defense was the key as the Big Red shut out the Rams until late in the third quarter. Michael Doxey continued to be strong in the goal registering 12 saves. The Long Pole unit of Garen Spendjian, Lewis Linares, Brandon Winkler, Andrew Ayo, and Aaron Sylver limited the West Hempstead scoring chances. Shaheem Lilly, Kenny Spy, Chris Saperstein, Nick Hoyos and Adam Ramadan played big parts in the groundball and clearing game for the Big Red.

In the second game, a 13-5 victory over Sewanhaka, the offense took control of the game. As is the Big Red way, the scoring was spread out over many players, with Dougie Tripp and Owen Valance scoring 5 goals each. Nine different players tallied points for the Big Red over the week, with Tripp scoring 8 goals and 2 assists, Valance adding 7 goals and 3 assists. Mike Moglia (2 goals/ 3 assists), Kevin Nicholas (3 goals/ 1assist), Chris Borer (1 goal/ 3 assists), Daven Plummer (1 goal) and Dennis Ramadan (first Varsity goal), Ryan Zupa (4 assists) and Charles Ring (1 assist) all tallied points during the week.
