March is Women's History Month, a month when we celebrate women and all that they contribute to our society. And here in Great Neck we have a lot to celebrate. It seems that everywhere you look, there are women in our community at work, women making a real difference, women taking on leadership roles.

We don't have far to look to find the impact of women on this peninsula---from the editors and staff of this newspaper, to the president and vice president of the school board, to two assistant school district superintendents, to a village mayor, a deputy mayor and several former mayors, to trustees on so many local boards, to a new park commissioner, to the head of our arts center, to rabbis and ministers, to four elementary school principals and many high level school administrators, to so many merchants, a list that can go on and on and on.

Great Neck can be justifiably proud to boast women doing so much of the work in this community, women truly accepted on equal terms with men, women and men working side by side together in Great Neck.

In each instance where we see women at work, or a woman in a leadership role, we see women really doing their jobs and doing them well. We see dedicated women who have, hopefully, won the positions solely on the basis of merit. It is our wish that this community, truly accepting the equality of the sexes, will always appoint and elect the best person for each job, be it a man or a woman.

Let's celebrate Women's History Month all year long!
